person-110305_640Do you live with chronic pain? If so, you might feel hopeless! At A Family and Sports Chiropractic Clinic, we are your chiropractor in Vancouver WA who knows that living with pain every day can take its toll.

So today, we want to help you find ways to limit the severity of your pain and how much it controls your life!

The first thing you can do is to become an expert at pain management: It is important to remember that no one technique will work for every person.

Not only should you do your research be open to trying new methods and techniques, you should be an expert in your individual pain cycle. Understanding what causes your flare-ups, and what typically works to help you feel better will make a big different in your experience with pain.

If you can keep your pain at a tolerable level, you may be able to remain active. This will help in minimizing your pain, which in turn will help prevent your pain from getting worse.

A few common pain management techniques include:

  • Cold therapy
  • Heat therapy
  • Over-the-counter pain medications
  • Prescription pain medications
  • Epidural steroid injections

Along with being and expert in your pain management, another thing you can do is practice imagery control techniques: Remembering that your mind can play a powerful role in reducing your perception of your pain. These imagery control techniques can give you major relief.

One type of imagery control is the age regression and/or progression technique, and here is how you do it:

  • For best results, do it in a dark and quiet room
  • Start by imagining a time when you were free from pain
  • You could also imagine a time in your future when your pain will be gone
  • Get that image firmly in your mind, and allow yourself to act as if this image were true

One great benefit of using imagery control techniques is that you can practice anytime you want! This will give you complete control over your pain!

These are just a few techniques for learning to deal with your chronic pain! For more suggestions or to learn more about your condition, contact your trusted chiropractor in Vancouver WA, Chani Henderson!
