A Vancouver WA Chiropractor Discusses Spinal Osteoarthritis

The motion within the body can sometimes lead to pain. Specific movements can lead to problems when done ineffectively. When you perform a twisting motion, damage can occur. In response to this damage, the area surrounding the muscles may become inflamed. This will lead to back spasms, which can cause both severe lower back pain and difficulty moving.

Cartilage can also become damaged and spinal osteoarthritis may occur. This condition is the mechanical breakdown of the cartilage that is between the aligning facet joints. These joints are located in the back portion of the spine.

Typical symptoms of spinal osteoarthritis include:

  • Stiffness and pain in the lower spine and sacroiliac joint in both the morning and later in the day.
  • Decreased pain throughout the day as the normal movements loosen the joints.
  • Lower back pain that radiates in the pelvis, buttocks, groins, or thighs.
