Avoid and Treat Your Pain on the Road

As you embark on your summer road trip, there are a few things you need to do to make sure that you can enjoy yourself without the annoyance of back pain. Here are a few more tips that you can use to get through your vacation.

You should sit up straight while riding, your knees should be placed slightly higher than you waist. You should also make sure to change positions of your seat or body often. It is also a great idea to bring an ice pack to help curtail pain that may pop up along the way. Ice can assist in keeping inflammation down and numb the area to slow nerve impulses and decrease damage. Altering back and fourth between ice and heat can greatly impact the severity and length of your pain. If you choose to bring a heating option with you, you can bring a bottle with hot water in it, a heating pad that you can plug into the cigarette lighter, or heating gel, all options are acceptable.

Exercising and stretching at rest stops is also a great way to treat lower back pain. These exercises keep your muscles, discs, joints, and ligaments healthy.

With just a bit of extra planning you can turn a back pain nightmare into a fun filled family vacation. To read more about what you can do to reduce back pain on road trips, click here.
